Alstom Thermal Power has been awarded a contract worth over EUR 50 million to retrofit the Controbloc N20 control system units for the 1300 MW nuclear power plants operated by EDF.
The system enables operators to improve the control of their plant with various sensors throughout the plant monitoring components such as valves, actuators of pumps, engines and electrical units.
All twenty of the 1300 MW nuclear units in France are equipped with the Alstom control system. It was installed during the construction of the power plants, and Alstom has been servicing it ever since.
Under the recent contract, Alstom will modernise the current system, adding new technology, based on its latest ALSPA Series 6 control system, to the existing Controbloc N20. Deployment for the first retrofitted unit is scheduled for spring 201
Dominique Llonch, vice president power automation & controls said: “This contract is a clear sign on how Alstom can both maintain its equipment on the long range and adapt to the new operational needs by providing its latest technologies.”
