The power plant with a planned capacity of about 11,230MW will dam the Xingu river in Brazil’s northern Para state.

Alstom said it will lead a consortium that includes German Voith and Austrian Andritz for 14 units of the 611MW Francis turbine-generator set and six smaller Bulb units.

The company will deliver seven Francis units, hydro-mechanical equipment and associated gas insulated substations for the 14 large-scale units.

The Belo Monte power project, which is expected to take eight years to be built, will meet the electricity needs of about 35 million people when operating at full capacity.
