Under the €13m contract, Alstom will design, manufacture, test, supply, erect and commission electro-mechanical equipment comprising one vertical Francis turbine of 75MW, generator, control systems and electrical balance-of-plant equipment.

The expansion would increase peak load capacity to support the existing 150MW Thac Mo power station with 75MW of additional power.

Alstom Renewable Power president Jerome Pécresse said: "This project showcases our technological leadership in the hydro sector and reaffirms the confidence that our customers have in our ability to deliver world class products and solutions in different regions and geographies."

Alstom will manufacture the main turbines and generators at its facility in Vadodara, a city in the Indian state of Gujarat.

The existing Thac Mo power station comprises 75MW Francis type turbines and supplies power to the national grid of EVN covering the southern part of Vietnam.
