The contracts are part of an investment scheme initiated by EDF’s Production and Hydraulic Engineering Division, which involves upgrading electrical control installations in hydroelectric plants.

Under the contract, Alstom will replace existing systems with Alstom-designed systems to control the hydraulic turbines and their related generators.

The contracts also include maintenance in operational conditions (MOC) section.

Work under the contract is scheduled to commence in early 2015.

Alstom Power EDF Group key account director François Taveau said: "The Group has built a sound experience in the assessment, maintenance and refurbishment of power plants, and this contract will strengthen our positioning within the hydroelectric power plant market and that of rotary machine control systems in all types of power plants."

The hydroelectric plant renovation contracts have been awarded to Alstom Hydro Services for speed control and Alstom Power Automation & Controls for voltage control.

EDF, in February 2013, had issued tenders for upgrading speed control systems in 220 production arrays as part of the replacement of control systems.
