During the scheduled renovation, a team of about 30 Alstom employees worked on changing software as well as hardware at the hydro facility, for Taipower.

The team ensured that at least 3 in 6 units are running as project execution progressed to enable power supply to the region.

The Mingtan power plant, which manages the peak load in electricity consumption, allows the country to fully utilize its electricity off-peak by pumping water from the lower reservoir back into the upper reservoir.

Located in Nantou Prefecture, the Mingtan hydro power plant uses Sun Moon Lake as the upper reservoir and Shuili River reservoir as lower reservoir.

Alstom team has developed a new hydro plant simulation system in order to resolve issues prior to starting the work on site.

The upgrade program is intended to allow the hydro plant to benefit from a more accurate and user friendly system. Maintenance of the plant is also made much easier with upgrade project.

Operated by Taipower, the Mingtan plant is said to be the largest pumped storage power facility in Taiwan.

Alstom supplied and installed the generators in 1987 for the power plant, which was commissioned in 1994.
