Under the contract, valued at €35m, Alstom will supply a power island (KA24) to the plant.

The contracts also include a long term service agreement for new unit 5 and for the existing four units. The commissioning is scheduled in 2016.

Capable of generating 338MW, the new unit, consisting of one GT24 gas turbine – the 11th in Mexico overall – a steam turbine and Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), will use Alstom’s upgraded gas turbine technology.

Alstom Thermal Power president Philippe Cochet said, "Alstom’s gas turbines have been in operation for more than 10 years on units 1,2,3,4 of the Monterrey III power station and we are proud to continue our long, successful partnership with Iberdrola to expand their generation needs. This experience enables us to provide superior generation and maintenance solutions that ensure reliability and efficiency for Mexico’s industrial consumers for years to come."
