The company’s units in the UK, Hungary and Poland will be engaged in the design and manufacture of the turbine.

The GRT featuring a flexible modular concept and a plug-and-play package is pre-assembled in the factory prior to its delivery and requires a simple foundation to anchor it to the steam turbine generator package, saving money on installation and commissioning times.

Spanning across 10-acre site in Lisahally, the wood-fueled biomass power station is being partly funded by the UK Green Investment Bank, and Danish export credit agency EKF. To be developed and funded by ERE Developments, the plant is likely to be operational by 2015.

Alstom Industrial Steam Turbines vice-president Daniel Wahler said that the GRT features the company’s latest technologies in blade designs and is a suitable solution for any sub-60MW biomass project where total plant efficiency is priority.
