The project will produce and deliver clean, renewable power to BC Hydro through the Forrest Kerr 287kV transmission system to the proposed BC Hydro Northwest Transmission Line (NTL) substation at Bob Quinn, British Columbia.

The powerhouse systems and high voltage switchyard of the project were completed in November while the facility is due to supply power to the NTL.

Power produced from the hydro facility will be sold to BC Hydro for distribution throughout the provincial power grid.

AltaGas chairman and CEO David Cornhill said: "This was made possible by the outstanding contributions of our dedicated employees and contractors, the Tahltan First Nation, BC Hydro and the Government of British Columbia."

The company will now carry out a number of online electrical and system functional checks over the next several weeks and the final project commercial operations are planned to be achieved by the end of the fourth quarter 2014.

In addition to contributing to the province of British Columbia’s efforts to achieve energy self sufficiency by 2016, the project will provide a clean, renewable energy source to help meet Canada’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
