The deal allows both firms to offer wind turbine blade and tower services to wind farm owners, operators and original equipment manufacturers (OEM’s) in the country.

The service being provided under the deal comprise of rotor-based inspections based on the principles for the monitoring of wind turbines, composite blade repairs, cleaning and monitoring of equipment, as well as wind turbine tower corrosion protection and repair.

At present, the partnership has created four teams of technicians, which work directly with project management personnel on the ground.

Under the joint venture agreement, Altitec will also provide training to new South African rope access technicians, as per international standards.

Altitec managing director Tom Dyffort said: "As key emerging markets move from early stage planning and development and into the commissioning stage, it’s critical that prospective wind power projects remain on track and stay within budget."

Obelisk managing director Justin Burnett said: "Altitec is well known and highly respected within the on and offshore wind market for its focus on continuing to set and raise international blade repair and inspection standards."

Altitec offers a wide range of blade inspection, repair and maintenance services. Its technicians have inspected around 2,000 blades and 660 turbines across the UK, Europe and other emerging markets since 2010.
