Under the contract, Ambient will supply its Smart Grid Nodes to change the discontinued technology for Consolidated Edison’s commercial and industrial (C&I) metering.
The Smart Grid Nodes help utilities gain real-time data communication for multiple applications, smart metering, distribution automation, power quality monitoring for voltage optimization.
Consolidated Edison selected Ambient’s smart grid nodes after testing the equipments for a year.
Ambient chief technology officer David Masters said Consolidated Edison needed a solution to interface with C&I meters located in remote areas and collect and transmit data directly to its control center.
"In addition, Ambient developed an application hosted locally on our node to collect, store, and transmit data from the meters," Masters added.
Ambient assists utilities modernize the grid with IP-based networking products and applications to integrate and connect existing and future grid assets on a secure, flexible, and scalable smart grid communications platform.
