Ambuklao dam was inaugurated in 2011 after it was rehabilitated and upgraded from 75MW to 105MW to help fulfil the country’s growing energy demands. It had been decommissioned for almost 12 years due to siltation and technical issues resulting from a major earthquake that hit Benguet in 1990.

During the 1950s, Ambuklao dam was the highest in the Far East. It measures 129m in height and is 452m long. Each spillway is 12.5m by 12.5m and 127m in length. Aside from generating electric energy, the dam helps minimise flooding and the water is also used to irrigate agricultural fields.
