The partnership is expected to focus on both the nuclear new-build and existing reactor marketplaces, providing an engineering, consultancy, project management and operations support service.

AMEC Clean Energy Europe business president Clive White said the partnership will combine the company’s wide ranging nuclear skills, such as licensing, engineering consultancy and permitting expertise, with Exelon’s unrivalled operational experience.

"It supports our strategy to grow our nuclear capability and will create a formidable entity to target major projects in new and exciting markets such as the Middle East and mainland Europe," White added.

Exelon Nuclear Partners CEO Amir Shahkarami said, "The global opportunities across the sector, from new build through to decommissioning and waste management, are huge and we are confident that this partnership between two of the world’s leading nuclear organisations will enable us to provide excellent value to our nuclear customers."

In addition, the two companies will explore opportunities in the renewable energy market, including wind and solar power, along with transmission and distribution.

A number of potential projects have already been identified by the two companies.
