Nugeneration Ltd. (NuGen) has placed an order with Amec Foster Wheeler for the provision of environmental services on the proposed new nuclear power plant at Moorside, Cumbria.

The multi-million pound contract is one of the first publicly announced by NuGen, and will see Amec Foster Wheeler carry out environmental impact assessments on the site, which is near to the Sellafield complex in north-west England.

Amec Foster Wheeler will also provide specialised environmental consultancy support to prepare for the installation of the plant’s three Westinghouse reactors, which will generate 3.4 GW of electricity – seven per cent of the UK’s electricity requirements – when they are operational in 2026.

Work on the contract will start immediately and follows similar recent work at the proposed nuclear new build stations at Hinkley Point and Sizewell, according to a statement from Amec Foster Wheeler.
