The Bay Lake Project will include a 345kV line from a new substation in the Green Bay, Wisconsin, area to an expanded substation near Ishpeming, Michigan.

It will also include a 138kV line from the new Green Bay area substation to the Morgan Substation near Oconto Falls, Wisconsin and two 138kV lines between the Menominee County and the Escanaba, Michigan areas.

The preliminary cost of the 345kV line is estimated to be between $470m to $705m and for the 138kV project it could be between $125m to $190m.

ATC reliability planning manager David Smith said, "The Bay Lake Project will improve electric system performance in the region as well as increase stability and reliability of the system."

ATC plans to hold open houses to gain public output on potential routes, following which the company plans to file applications with regulatory agencies in Michigan and Wisconsin to build the line in 2013 and 2014.

Construction on the line could begin in 2015, once the line receives approval from both the states.

The line will be operational by 2016.
