Preliminary cost of the facilities is estimated to be between $470m and $705m for the 345kv projects and between $125m and $190m for the 138kv projects.

ATC said the Bake Lay project will improve the performance of the region’s electrical system while improving reliability.

The proposal entails a 345kv line for about 175 miles from a new substation in Green Bay to an expanded substation near Ishpeming, Michigan and a 138kv line for about 40 miles from the new Green Bay area to the Morgan Substation near Oconto Falls, Wisconsin.

Also, two 138kv lines between the Menominee County and the Escanaba, Michigan, areas spanning about 60 miles.

The company will hold a series of informational open houses and expects to file applications for the project with regulatory agencies in Michigan and Wisconsin in late 2013.

Construction would begin in 2015 and the project could enter service in 2016.
