The five hydro projects will be located in Chilo, Ohio, southeast of Cincinnati; near Gallipolis, southern Ohio; Hawesville, Kentucky; Smithland, Kentucky, and St. Marys, northwestern West Virginia.

The small hydro projects will provide power to more than half of the 570,000 customers served by its members, according to American Municipal Power.

The company has raised $250 million in short-term financing to cover project costs. The remaining funds will come from long-term tax-exempt bonds. American Municipal Power will pay off the bonds through purchase power agreements with its member utilities.
