Anadarko Petroleum is expecting to collaborate with a company to share the costs and monetize up to one third of its interest in the discovery.

Anadarko Petroleum investor relations vice president John Colglazier was quoted by Wall Street Journal as saying that the firm is considering joint venture partnership to monetize one third of its interest and minimize the risk.

"It’s a pretty significant piece of the portfolio for something that’s not producing," Colglazier added.

It is estimated that the offshore fields of the country has about 35 to 65 trillion cubic feet of recoverable natural gas and the discovery has a good potential.

Anadarko Petroleum intends to start selling gas from the area in 2018.
