Under the contract, Andritz Hydro will supply two high-pressure Francis turbines with a capacity of 185MW each, two generator units, hydraulic steelwork and steel linings.

Lysebotn II, which is planned to be commisioned in spring 2018, will replace the existing Lysebotn hydropower plant.

After completion, the new hydropower station will increase the annual energy production by 14% to reach 1.5 terawatt-hours.

Andritz Hydro said due to the favorable reservoir situation the generating units for the underground hydropower station are designed for frequent start/stop to optimize energy production.

The company noted that its technological competence to cope with the high head of 665m was decisive factor in securing the contract.

Earlier in 2014, Andritz Hydro has won a contract from GAMEK to supply electromechanical equipment for the new 2,067MW Lauca hydropower plant in Angola.
