Under the first INR669m (€9m) contract, the company will supply of a 400kV air-insulated substation at Suryapet in Nalgonda district, while the second INR633m (€8m) contract covers delivery of the Kamavarapukota 400kV air-insulated substation in the West Godavari district.

The substations are scheduled to help address energy demand by transporting the power generated at Hinduja National Power Corporation Limited’s (HNPCL) 1,040 MW coal-based thermal power plant in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Alstom T&D India managing director Rathin Basu said the substations will form part of the region’s ongoing efforts to keep pace with Andhra Pradesh’s rapid economic development by increasing both the availability and reliability of the electrical network.

”This success also reinforces our partnership with AP Transco; Alstom T&D India is playing an important role in building the transmission network in the State of Andhra Pradesh,” Basu added.

Having already added 6,000MW of installed capacity during 2007 to 2012 timeframe, Andhra Pradesh government is also planning to add an additional 17,000MW by 2017 to meet the growing power demand in the state.
