The project will involve replacing cables on the 500kV transmission line, which was installed in 1966.

The work, which will occur within the company’s right-of-way, will start at Cloverdale substation and parallels Interstate 81 to a point about 7-miles south of Lexington, The Roanoke Times reported.

Appalachian said the work is expected to be completed by 2016.

The company will also replace seven old towers and construct four new towers.

With this upgrades, the transmission line will be able to carry more power.
