According to a report in Oregon Live, the amount of electricity used in the Prineville data centre to power computers and devices would be equal to that of a energy used to power a small city.
In a statement on its progress towards 100% renewable energy, Apple said its goal is to power every facility entirely with energy from renewable sources like solar, wind, hydro and geothermal.
To achieve this, the company is investing in its own onsite energy production, working with suppliers to procure renewable energy off the grid, as well as reducing its energy requirements.
