Under the 25-year PPA, which is considered as the largest agreement in the industry to provide a commercial end user with clean energy, Apple will receive electricity from 130MW AC solar facility.

First Solar Chief Commercial Officer Joe Kishkill said: "Apple is leading the way in addressing climate change by showing how large companies can serve their operations with 100 percent clean, renewable energy.

"Over time, the renewable energy from California Flats will provide cost savings over alternative sources of energy as well as substantially lower environmental impact."

Construction of the 2,900-acre California Flats Solar project is expected to commence in mid-2015 and will be completed by the end of 2016.

In a separate long-term PPA, Pacific Gas & Electric will acquire the remaining 150MW of this solar project, which is due to secure final approval from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors.
