The Appliances Online recycling service usually costs GBP9.99, covering the transportation and collection of old appliances. The company said that in a bid to help customers help the environment, it will not charge for the actual recycling of old appliances.
Appliances Online added that it supports the new WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive from the government, contributing to a national fund which will help to develop specific WEEE collection centers throughout the UK and aims to reduce the amount of electrical waste that ends up in landfill and in turn help to protect the environment from further damage.
Waste electrical and electronic equipment is the fastest growing waste stream in the UK, increasing by 5% every year, according to the company.
