Aqua’s existing wastewater facility consists of a gravity collection system and lagoon wastewater treatment system.

The wastewater system serves 278 residential customers, and the company already provides water to these customers.

The company intends to construct a new 70,000 gallons-per-day wastewater treatment plant in next year to upgrade the level of treatment, comply with an existing consent order from the Virginia department of environmental quality.

Aqua also plans to bring the wastewater system into compliance with federal and state environmental standards.

Recently, Aqua has signed an agreement to sell its operations in Maine to Connecticut Water Service.

US-based Aqua is a publicly-traded water utility and serves nearly three million residents across various US states.
