Based on an agreement entered between ArcelorMittal and regional government of Russia’s coal mining region of Kemerovo in Western Siberia, the investment for the Pervomaiskaya mine’s modernisation would be from the company, to keep it functional as per the local labour and ecological laws.

Previously the company intended to shut Pervomaiskaya coal complex, where the proposal was opposed by the local governor Amana Tuleyev. The local government would ensure the sale of coal produced by ArcelorMittal, in exchange for the efforts from ArcelorMittal.

ArcelorMittal owns Pervomaiskya coal mine which is located in the town of Beryozovsky and ‘Anzherskoye’ in Anzhero-Suzhensk situated in the Kemerovo region’s coal basin.
