Located in the Supanburi Province, in the North-West of Thailand, the biomass power plant has been constructed as part of a $17m contract signed in 2012.

As part of the contract, Areva provided engineering services and the main equipment as well as supervised the testing and commissioning phases while Ensys supplied auxiliary equipment and provided construction services.

U-Thong Bio Power director Adisak Martsri said, "Despite the complexity of such a project, AREVA and Ensys delivered a power plant, which meets all our expectations."

Fueled by rice husk and by bagasse, the plant would generate a total output of 9.9MW electrical power, which is enough to provide 6,000 to 8,000 households with green electricity.

AREVA Renewables CEO Louis-François Durret said, "This facility has reached full capacity and responds perfectly to our customer’s requirements."

Currently, Areva is construction two additional units both in Thailand and the Philippines and has already delivered two similar biomass plants in Thailand.
