Under the $250m contract, Areva will provide nine nuclear fuel reloads of the Atrium 10XM fuel design, supply core monitoring technology and related services.

Areva will fabricate the fuel at its facility in Richland, Washington and will commence delivery in 2017.

Areva Fuel business unit for US region senior vice president Ron Land said: "AREVA has supplied nuclear fuel for Browns Ferry since 2004 and we are proud to continue a great fuel partnership with TVA.

"This contract recognizes the role that AREVA’s strong fuel performance plays in safe and economically competitive power generation, and highlights our innovative ATRIUM fuel designs for the boiling water reactor market."

TVA will also have the option to upgrade to Areva’s next generation ATRIUM 11 fuel design, which will improve the fuel efficiency and operating flexibility for utilities.
