A part of the company’s global ‘Safety Alliance’ program, the SFPLI is designed to monitor the water level of the spent fuel pool, which is a critical factor for the safety of a nuclear power plant.

The fuel is placed in storage pools for cooling after being used in a nuclear reactor for electricity production.

Areva Reactors & Services Business Group senior executive vice president Claude Jaouen said, ”AREVA is pleased to offer the American nuclear industry this proven and competitive system which meets the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s new requirements for improving nuclear plant safety.”

The SFPLI systems use a technology that has already been proven in over 300,000 applications, including nuclear, military, and industrial installations.

Launched in 2011, the Safety Alliance program assembles all of Areva’s solutions to optimize the safety of the the existing nuclear facilities.
