PCD is used to make high-performance polyurethanes with characteristics such as exceptional heat resistance and water resistance.

Work on the plant, which will be designed to produce 3,000 tons/year of PCD, will start in spring 2014, while start-up is scheduled in early 2015.

Once complete, Asahi Kasei’s total capacity will increase to 6,000 tons/year together with 3,000 ton/year plant in Japan.

The company currently produces Duranol at a plant in its Mizushima Works, Kurashiki, Okayama, Japan.

Asahi Kasei said Duranol has the leading share of the Asian PCD market for polyurethanes for synthetic leather in automotive interiors, polyurethane coatings, and UV-curable polyurethanes.
