The Scottish publication has reported that Asda has joined forces with price comparison website Simplyswitch.com to allow its customers to search the whole energy market and gain easy access to cheaper energy.

According to The Scotsman, Asda believes that UK consumers could save more than GBP2,000 a year by simply changing suppliers. The Wal-Mart-owned retailer is therefore offering its customers access to the latest prices from the energy providers operating in their area.

Cited in The Scotsman, Gev Lynott, director of Asda financial services, said: Although people know there are savings to be made by switching from their traditional supplier, or by going for a dual fuel supply option, many are put off because they think it will be a long drawn-out and complicated process.

Mr Lynott continued: Nothing could be further from the truth, and with savings equal to many homes’ monthly shopping budget, it certainly is worth taking five minutes to do so – either online, or by contacting our UK-based call center.
