The disruption is planned as a part of ongoing industrial disputes at the facility located at Port Waratah Coal Services in which Rio Tinto’s subsdiary Coal & Allied holds stake. The move follows eight-month long negotiations between MUA and PWCS.

Earlier in May 2013, nearly 200 workers at PWCS had given their nod to proceed with two-week campaign of industrial action.

The campaign includes eight, 12 and 24-hour stoppages along with bans on overtime and working outside classifications, reported The Australian.

MUA assistant national secretary Ian Bray stated that the group expected to strike an agreement with the company.

"We are going forward with a steady campaign of legally protected action as well as a broader strategy to bring justice to our members," added Bray.
