Under the $60m turnkey contract, CG will build four high voltage gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substations for the Electrical Transmission Project Office of the MOE.

CG will design, manufacture, deliver and install the substations and upgrade and reinforce the existing 132kV electricity transmission grid.

The company will also deliver all electrical engineering works, 12 power transformers, medium voltage and high voltage GIS and SCADA/control and protection systems for the high voltage substations.

Avantha Group Company Crompton Greaves CEO and managing director Laurent Demortier said the company has been constructing electrical infrastructure in Iraq for the last 25 years.

"CG has supplied high quality, reliable T&D products and has a successful track record of building similar substations in the Middle East region," Demortier added.

The project is expected to be completed by August 2014.
