The appliance is also capable of controlling the selective start up and shutdown of local solar, wind and generator components, thereby optimizing power generation credits, load balance and reducing peak rate demand on the public power grid.

The Genius Box can configure each networked appliance to report status and power consumption. Same with each local power generation source, be it solar, wind or generator. This helps the toolbox to weigh the cost of utility power, local power or the combination of the two with the need for running certain appliances.

Genius Box can serve both as a central controller for stand alone, local micro power grids and as a smart controller for discerning whether to use utility power, local power or less of each through selective appliance shutdown.

The Genius Box connects to local area computer network wirelessly while communicating with power grid components. It is fully automated but can be manually overridden via a web application or iPhone application.

The Genius Box is expandable and can be upgraded and scaled to control a single home up to well over 5,000 network homes on a single micro grid.

Sam Higgins, chairman of AVEC, said: “We’re excited about this higher margin, higher inventory turnover, lower unit cost, commercial off the shelf network control box. It will allow end users the ability to take control of their power consumption, power bills and power generation.”
