The overhaul included replacement of fuel elements, while in the course of the revision, various components in the nuclear cycle were inspected and around one sixth of the fuel elements replaced with new units.

The planned maintenance and inspection work focused on the main components in the nuclear section.

Periodic tests serve to identify possible changes in the systems and structures early on in order to introduce the appropriate corrective measures.

Preventive works will also be carried out on the non-nuclear section of the power plant, for example on turbines, on one of the two generators, as well as on other systems and components belonging to the secondary system.

Additionally, 20 new fuel elements will be installed in the fuel core that holds a total of 121 elements.

During the revision, about 300 specialists from domestic and international companies will support the 500 Beznau employees.

Block 2 at the plant had produced approximately three billion kWh of electricity- enough to supply around a half a million Swiss households.
