The funding will support accelerated development of the company’s B&W mPower SMR technology. Bechtel and the Tennessee Valley Authority are part of the mPower America project team.

B&W said its subsidiaries have executed 150 agreements with suppliers in 36 states of the US to support the mPower program.

In March 2012, the energy department had issued a fund to provide support to the US nuclear industry for Small Modular Reactor (SRM) technology development and design certification.

The DOE’s funding program is expected to be administered over the next five years. The department has chosen B&W mPower as the SMR technology provider for an early deployment.

The mPower America team and its members now have about 400 staff working on the development and licensing of the B&W mPower SMR.

The mPower America project is expected to help in revitalizing the US commercial nuclear manufacturing infrastructure.
