LNF facility

The construction is a part of an engineering, procurement, and construction contract awarded by FortisBC to Bechtel to expand its Tilbury facility.

The $400m Tilbury expansion project will include installation of a new 1-billion-cubic-foot full-containment LNG storage tank to significantly increase natural gas liquefaction and storage capacity to support growing needs for B.C. LNG.

Bechtel will also be responsible for the startup and commissioning of the new liquefaction facility.

FortisBC Energy operates the only two LNG facilities in Western Canada.

Powered by electric drives, the expanded facility will be air-cooled eliminating the need for cooling water.

In addition to supporting the Government of British Columbia’s efforts to develop a strong LNG industry in the province, the expansion project will allow FortisBC to meet the growing demand for natural gas for transportation, as an energy solution for remote communities and for the marketplace.

Delta, British Columbia Mayor Lois Jackson said: "The expansion of the Tilbury LNG Facility will bring skilled jobs to our community, providing further opportunities for growth amongst our local trades and technical sector."

Construction work on the expanded facility is scheduled to be completed in November 2016.
