The expansion will add about one billion cubic feet of LNG storage and 34,000 gigajoules per day of gas liquefaction capacity.

In addition to providing an expected $4m a year in taxes to several levels of government over time, the expansion is expected to meet increased market demand for LNG in BC.

FortisBC operates two LNG facilities in BC, which include the Mt. Hayes facility in Ladysmith on Vancouver Island and the Tilbury facility.

The Tilbury expansion project construction work will start in September 2015 and will be completed in 2016.

The Tilbury plant, which has several features designed for the safe handling of LNG, is capable of liquefying 120,000 cubic metres of natural gas per day and will enable FortisBC to better support the province in the development of natural gas for the transportation sector.
