As per the contract, Bechtel will build the 110MWac Catalina solar photovoltaic (PV) generating project on 1,100 acres in Kern County.
Bechtel will also construct the 7.2 mile transmission line to connect the facility to a nearby substation.
Bechtel Renewable Power business group president Jim Ivany said the large utility-scale project will help meet the growing demand for a mix of renewable energy sources.
"This project draws upon Bechtel’s experience in both the renewable energy and transmission markets, and we look forward to working with enXco to make it a success," Ivany said.
Construction is scheduled to commence in May 2012 pending final approval from the California Public Utilities Commission, with scheduled completion in the next year.
The facility will produce enough energy to power about 35,000 homes.
Bechtel is also constructing two other solar facilities in California including Ivanpah, a concentrated solar thermal power facility, and the California Valley Solar Ranch.
