Belarus, with assistance of Russia, plans to construct a two unit nuclear power plant with total capacity of 2,400MW at the Ostrovets site in Grodno Oblast.

The plant will be designed and constructed by Russia-based OAO Nizhny Novgorod Engineering Company Atomenergoproject (NIAEP) – ZAO Atomstroyexport.

The first unit is expected to be operational in 2018.

The nuclear plant project will be based on AES-2006 design developed by Atomenergoproekt.

The design will meet all the requirements of Belarus legislation and recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
