According to the Brazilian environment protection regulator Ibama, at the time that the Norte Energia consortium will have to invest BRL100m ($60m) in environmental conservation projects in the area surrounding the facility, BNamericas reported.

In June, Ibama issued the installation license for the proposed power project, which will be built on the Xingu river in the Amazon region.

Ibama energy infrastructure coordinator Adriano Queiroz said Ibama has a specialist team monitoring all works undertaken at the construction site and the regulator is making sure all environmental commitments are complied with.

The Norte Energia consortium will build and operate the power plant and is led by state-run utility Eletrobras Chesf with 49.98% stake.

Other project partners are Queiroz Galvao (10.02%), Galvao Engenharia (3.75%), Cetenco Engenharia (5%), Mendes Júnior (3.75%), Serveng (3.75%), J Malucelli (9.98%), Contern (3.75%) and Gaia Energia (10.02%).
