Silver Spring will act as the prime contractor for networking technology, smart meters, gas modules and related solutions for the project.

BGE has estimated that the project will deliver more than $2.5bn worth of customer savings.

Silver Spring said it will deliver its IPv6 network platform, advanced metering solution including smart meters from GE and L&G, gas modules, Utility IQ back office environments and deployment services to ensure a quality implementation of BGE’s smart grid.

Silver Spring’s Smart Energy platform is based on open, internet protocol standards, allowing two-way communication between the utility and devices on the grid.
