The contract is part of a turnkey order awarded to Hindustan Construction Company (HCC) along with BHEL by the NHPC of India . HCC will be responsible for the complete civil works and the hydro-mechanical package.

BHEL’s scope of work in the contract envisages design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of complete electro-mechanical works for the project. Major equipment to be supplied includes three hydro turbines with matching synchronous generators; excitation system; transformers; microprocessor-based controls, state-of-the-art monitoring and protection system and switchyard, besides other associated equipment and auxiliaries.

For NHPC, BHEL is also presently executing the electro-mechanical works for Nimoo Bazgo (3×15 MW) and Chutak (4×11 MW) project, both in the challenging terrain and climatic conditions of Jammu and Kashmir.

Last week the company announced it had won a contract to supply the electro-mechanical equipment package for the 1200MW (6x200MW) Punatsangchhu-I hydroelectric project in Bhutan.
