The construction phase will create up to 30 jobs and over GBP3 Million will go into the local economy, and when fully operational up to 40 people will be employed.

Located off Westinghouse Road in Trafford Park, the plant will have easy access to the M60 and M602. The majority of the waste received for recycling will come from Biffa’s customers in the Greater Manchester area, providing them with the ability to achieve high recycling rates, avoid landfill and reduce their carbon footprint.

Speaking on behalf of the company, Engineering Director Dr John Casey said “The plant uses a unique combination of mechanical and optical sorting systems and has been designed to operate with very high levels of automation and efficiency making it the most advanced plant in the UK. This is the first of a new generation of material recycling facilities that we will be building across the UK as we move more of our customer’s waste to recycling and resource recovery”.

Biffa currently operates 20 recycling plants across the UK and in 2008/9 recycled over 1 million tonnes of paper, card, plastics, glass and other materials.
