According to the terms of the agreement, Blue Sphere will receive and digest up to 1,000 tonnes of pre-sorted organic waste per day.

The feedstock will come from a new transfer station in Accra that will start operation in early 2014.

Blue Sphere will install the waste-to-energy system near to its partner, in the project,JSO’s waste transfer station and the plant will operate under Ghana’s feed-in-tariff scheme for waste-to-power projects.

Blue Sphere CEO Shlomi Palas said the company is already preparing a preliminary design and development plan for the project and has commenced negotiations for a long-term power purchase agreement at the FIT rate.

"We are also speaking to various multilateral and government agencies, as well as private investors, to raise financing for the project," Palas added.
