VBMS in consortium with NKT Cables has received the Borssele Alpha contract from TenneT.
Under the contract, the parties will be responsible for the installation of two export cables that will connect the Borssele offshore wind farms 1 and 2 to TenneT's onshore grid in the country.
The contract also includes an option for the installation of the export cables that will connect the Borssele offshore wind farms 3 and 4 to the Dutch onshore grid (Borssele Beta).
However, the option is subject to financial close.
The scope of the Alpha contract includes the supply and installation of two 61-kilometer-long export cables.
The grid connection of the Borssele offshore wind area in the North Sea consists of two 700 MW connections, called Alpha (for Borssele 1 and 2) and Beta (for Borssele 3 and 4).
The cables, which will be routed via the Western Skeldt estuary, will reach onshore near the existing high-voltage substation at Borssele, the Netherlands.
Boskalis said that it will leverage the expertise and capabilities within the group in order to execute the contract in a safe and efficient manner.
The company will pre-sweep and dredge the shallow parts of the route to reduce maintenance to the cables during their operational lifetime.
The process will also enable VBMS to simultaneously lay and bury the export cables at the required depth.
The project is scheduled to be carried out in the 2018-2019 period.
In July, the Netherlands-based construction company received a €100m offshore balance of plant contract from Vattenfall to construct the proposed 92.4MW Aberdeen offshore wind farm in Scotland.
