Reuters cited energy industry intelligence service Genscape as saying that the 110,000 barrel per day (bpd) crude distillation unit (CDU) has returned to service following its closure last week.

Sources familiar with plant operations said that the CDU was closed on Wednesday following a malfunction.

However, the refinery’s two other CDUs have remained in operation.

The Whiting refinery is one of the refineries where United Steelworkers union (USW)-represented hourly workers are on strike for a new three-year national agreement for safety, wages and health care.

The refinery is primarily located in Whiting, Indiana, US, but portions of the 1,400 acres complex spread into the adjacent cities of Hammond and East Chicago.
