According to the company, the three systems totaling over 1.7MW mark the final installations of BP Solar’s 4.1MW commitment to Wal-Mart as part of the retailer’s solar pilot project.

The 4.1MW project consists of nearly 24,000 solar panels expected to produce 6.7 million kWh of electricity per year. This is estimated to eliminate 4,786 metric tons of CO2 per year and is the equivalent of removing 877 cars from the road, claims BP Solar.

Mark Kerstens, vice president of sales and marketing for BP Solar, said: “We are proud to provide seven Wal-Mart stores and Sam’s Clubs with solar energy. These stores are examples of how businesses that choose renewable energy reduce their energy costs and can make a difference not only in a single community but in an entire region of the country.”

BP is an integrated energy company, with manufacturing facilities in the United States, Spain, India and China. A part of the company’s alternative energy business, BP Solar is a global company with over 2200 employees focused on harnessing the sun’s energy to produce solar power for electricity, claims the company.
