Over 13,000 activities, including equipment upgrades, safety inspections, tests, and plant enhancements have been carried out by Exelon employees and supplemental workers during the 21-day outage, which commenced on 09 September 2013.

Braidwood Site vice president Mark Kanavos said, ”The work performed during the outage will help ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of Unit 1.”

Meanwhile Braidwood Unit 2 continued to operate during the Unit 1 refueling outage.

Located 60 miles southwest of Chicago, Braidwood Generating Station’s two nuclear energy units can produce a total of more than 2,300MW at full power, which is sufficient electricity to power more than 2 million homes.
