The aviation major’s flagship project includes the construction of an advanced facility to convert 500,000 tons of waste to 50,000 tonnes of sustainable low carbon jet fuel, 50,000 tonnes of biodiesel, bionaphtha and renewable power.

Solena will offer its Integrated Biomass Gasification to Liquids solution for the project while the Oxford Catalysts Group will supply reactors and catalysts with Fluor providing engineering services.

The facility is projected to commence operations in 2015 and produce 50,000 tons of jet fuel per annum over the next ten years.

British Airways has agreed to purchase all of the jet fuel produced at the plant at a cost of $500m.

Commenting on the developments British Airways chief executive Keith Williams remarked that the company now had the right partners to deliver a sustainable aviation fuel facility.

Solena president and CEO Robert Do added, "Our GreenSky London project will provide clean, sustainable fuels at market competitive prices that will help address British Airways’ sustainability goals."
