The GreenSky London initiative envisages the conversion of 500,000 tons of locally-sourced waste into 50,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation bio-fuel alongside 50,000 tonnes of bio-naphtha and biodiesel.
Solena Fuels, on its part, will bring the high temperature gasification technology to the convert waste matter into synthesis gas and also contribute its Integrated Biomass Gasification to Liquids (IBGTL) solution.
Commenting on the initiative British Airways CEO Keith Williams remarked that the company’s flagship biofuel project was close to being a reality now.
"With world-class technology partners now in place, we are well on our way to making sustainable aviation fuel a reality for British Airways by 2015," said Williams.
Solena CEO and president Robert Do added, "The British Airways off-take agreement represents the largest advanced biofuel commitment ever made by an airline and clearly demonstrates the airline’s leadership and vision in achieving its carbon emission reduction targets.
The Fisher-Tropsch (FT) reactors and catalysts will be provided by Oxford Catalysts Group while Flour Corporation will carry out the pre-front end engineering and design for the facility.
UK-based Barclays will act as an advisor to the facility and explore funding options necessary.
